Timing is Everything

Being a police officer’s wife or husband isn’t always easy. Nor is being a police officer and having a family. There are many challenges and fears associated with a profession in law enforcement than there are with many others. Mainly because police officers are faced with the harsh but honest reality that they may not make it home.

Immediately after their loved one is killed in the line of duty, families are met with an outpouring of support. While it’s ultimately a good thing, this support can be overwhelming, and it eventually dies off, leaving families with a quieter house and an empty chair at the dinner table.

As law enforcement professionals ourselves, we know this firsthand. That’s why we wait until about 18 to 24 months after the tragedy, when families are ready to begin moving forward.

Since our establishment in 2016, Band of Blue has provided support and positive experiences to families across the nation. It’s our mission to help as many people as humanly possible. But we can’t do it alone. If you know a family who has suffered a line of duty death, fill out the form below.

“Band of Blue came in at just the right time when I was ready to handle some things. It’s comforting to know that what we’re going through on a daily basis isn’t forgotten, it’s honored.”
